Here we’ll show you how to stay on track with your goals throughout the years. No longer do you need to get caught up in making resolutions. Make sustainable life changes instead. According to MSN, most give up on their New Year’s Resolution by the second Friday in January.

Meanwhile, others hold on until January 31st, and only a select few stick with their resolutions. Clearly, the odds are not stacked in our favor. So, let’s ditch the resolutions and resolve to make life changes! Let’s vow to focus on sustainable living changes instead.Better yet, let’s master sustainable life goals that last.

Why New Year’s Resolutions Often Fail and How to Succeed

A major reason many resolutions fail is setting ambitious goals without a plan.

For example, imagine you’ve smoked since you were 15. Now at 45, you declare that on January 1st, you’re quitting cold turkey! Determination is your middle name, but chances are you won’t succeed without a solid plan.

Or maybe you want to lose 20 or 30 pounds. The declaration is made: “Starting January 1st, I’m losing this weight!”

Another common resolution: “I am saving money this year.” Yet, many of us vow to make all these changes right on day 1 of the new year. Some last two weeks, others two months, and those of us who are especially disciplined might last nearly six months. So, why do we all eventually fall off track?

As Benjamin Franklin wisely said, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.”

How To Master Sustainable Life Goals: Why Planning Is Important

Get the theme? Resolve to stop smoking, lose weight, and save money- neither started out with a plan or affirmative action, we just declared we were doing it. Does these New Year’s Resolutions sound familiar?

For me, I have gained weight and started the process of losing it with a plan. I am only going to eat 1500 calories per day to obtain my goal. I am going to make sure I get between 70-90 grams of protein in daily.

Some days I am starving, to curb my appetite I’ll snap a Zlem, it helps curb my appetite. It’s also known to help you sleep well.

How To Stick to Your Goals and Achieve Weight Loss Success

To maintain my progress, I stick to eating no more than 1500 -1700 calories per day—except on holidays when I allow myself to indulge a little. This way, I keep on track without feeling deprived.

If I do not make it to the gym, I am pulling up a YouTube video. A couple of my favorites are Burpee Girl and Body By Jerikka, the latter being my first pick. Why you might ask? We’re built similar, big thighs, hips that stick out, etc. Burpee girl has the lean zero fat body I dream about having but know, with my hourglass shape, it’s not in the cards.

I have a plan to lose 3-4 lbs. per month. So far since September it’s happening! It’s May 2025 I am down 23 lbs, 17 to go! Slow and steady wins the race. Per the Mayo Clinic

How to Stay on Track with Goals: My 5x Weekly Workout Strategy

I’m down 23 lbs because I’ve learned how to stay on track with goals by following a flexible, doable fitness plan. Start with changing your eating habits, I did:

  • Breakfast- 1/4 cup overnight oats, chobani zero sugar yogurt, cinammon sprinkled on both the oats and the yogurt, 1/3rd of a large banana sliced on top with 1/4 cup raw almonds =375 calories, and 21.5 grams of protein.
  • Lunch- (try to eat your carbs in the middle of the day) 1 cup pasta salad, 8 oz pan seared salmon = 688 calories, and 38 grams of protein.
  • Dinner- 1 cup with dressing Caeser salad and 3oz of baked chicken added =300 calories, and 30 grams of protein
  • Conclusion- I’ve eaten 1363 calories and consumed 89.5 grams of protein in the process. I have 147 calories left for a snack, or 8 ounces of wine, it’s important to choose wisely
